Salmon River Corridor Tour Itinerary


Introduction
The Salmon River Corridor has many river access sites where you can park and walk to the river for a quick view. All of these access sites are not listed here.

Selkirk Lighthouse (#1 on the map)
Start at the Selkirk Lighthouse at the western end of County Route 5. Take a quick picture of the lighthouse. This is private property so please respect the privacy of the property owner.
Time needed: 15 minutes

Village of Pulaski
Park along North Jefferson Street and enjoy Pulaski's historic buildings by walking along this historic district. After visiting the Salmon River Fine Arts Center and Pulaski Historical Society, drive to the Church St. River Access site to visit The Arches.
Time needed: 2 hours

Salmon River Fish Hatchery (#2 on the map)
Enjoy touring this state-of-the-art facility devoted to raising salmon and trout.
Time Needed: 1 hour

Lighthouse Hill Hydropower Facility (#3 on the map)
This facility is not open to the public, but enjoy viewing it from the road.

Bennetts Bridge Hydropower Facility (#4 on the map)
This facility is not open to the public, but enjoy viewing it from the road.

Lower Reservoir
Across the road from the Bennetts Bridge Hydropower Facility is a dirt road that leads to a day use area on the Lower Reservoir. This is a great place to launch your canoe or other car-top boat. Otherwise, just stop and admire the view!
Time Needed: 15 minutes

Salmon River Falls (#5 on the map)
A trail beginning at the parking area for the falls will lead you to a fantastic view of Salmon River Falls. Enjoy the view but don't wander too close to the edge!
Time Needed: 30 minutes

Upper Reservoir
If you follow Falls Road to its end, straight ahead you'll see a small dirt road that leads to a car-top boat launch site on the Upper Reservoir. Enjoy the view, stop for a picnic, or go for a boat ride. This reservoir offers spectacular scenery that will make you want to return to the Salmon River Corridor again!
Time Needed: 10 minutes

Iron Bridge and Dam (#6 on the map)
Take a left at the end of Falls Road. This road will end at a small parking area. From here, walk across the old iron bridge for a breathtaking view of the Salmon River Dam. Note: the railing on this bridge is old. Please stay away from the edge of the bridge.
Time Needed: 10 minutes

Chateaugay State Forest (#7 on the map)
Chateaugay offers hiking and cross country skiing along pristine wooded trails. You can also drive through the forest on Beecherville Road (a dirt road).
Time Needed: 20 minutes for driving through

Salmon River State Forest (#8 on the map)
Salmon River State Forest offers beautiful trails for mountain bikers and snowmobilers. Parking is along the side of the road only. Enjoy a view of the woodlands in this area as you drive by.

Hall Island State Forest (#9 on the map)
A trail beginning on Route 17 at the parking access area there follows the shore of the Upper Reservoir to a parking area on the western end of the reservoir. This is a beautiful hiking and mountain biking trail, but it can be muddy. If you don't have time for a hike, stop for a quick view of the reservoir.
Time Needed: 10 minutes for a quick stop.

Selkirk Shores State Park (#10 on the map)
Selkirk Shores offers trails, a sandy beach, picnic facilities, and camp sites. Come for a day hike and swim, or stay the night in one of the campsites or cabins.
Time Needed: 2 hours (short hike and swim).
